About Me

My name is Zeynab Warsame, I’m a freelance writer for University Life based in Montreal, and my pronouns are she/her.

MY BACKGROUND

After growing up in Ottawa with an interest in the arts, DIY spaces, community activism, and literature, I relocated to Montreal (where I am currently based) to pursue a degree in English, as well as explore newer, more diverse realms of creativity. I bisected my time in my degree between University of Ottawa and Concordia, having graduated with a BA in English Literature in June 2021.

MY SPECIALTIES

Since then, I have been focused on pursuing freelance work that allows me to research and investigate niche and impactful cultural phenomena and figures, personal and lived experiences, and social and politically charged issues. I’m inspired by works by authors such as Henry Dumas, Cookie Mueller, Joan Didion, Toni Morrison, Banana Yoshimoto, and James Baldwin.

A LITTLE EXTRA

I hope to be able to merge my writing career to incorporate elements of multimedia, and experiment in my approach by employing varying writing styles (investigative reporting, long form essays, etc.,) into my creative path.
